Getting Started Guide

facultyApp lets you privately bookmark academic faculty job ads and track your ongoing applications. It provides a centralized place to view candidate positions you want to apply while you find out and fill in the details of these jobs. The job ads bookmarked on facultyApp and their details are kept publicly so that many candidates can contribute to filling in the details -- using crowdsourcing to reduce the application burden. Public commenting is also allowed on job ads for discussion. For private or competitive information you don't want to share, a private space is provided for notes and private tags.

Begin by searching or browsing positions to include on your watchlist. After adding notes and continuing with your own research, you can begin tracking your current applications, thus helping you organize your job search.

If you don't see the positions you are looking for listed in our website, you can add the position by entering the information in the job ads that you are interested. Make sure you add relevant tags so it will be easier for you and the rest of the community to find these jobs. The advantage of replicating that data in here is that everything is centralized for your convenience.

Search/Browse for Jobs

To begin using this service and begin tracking academic jobs that you are interested in, use the browse or search functionality to search for a position based on the position title, the university, location, or other custom features like tags.

Using the Watchlist

Did you find some jobs that you might be interested in or are currently pursuing? Go ahead and add them to your personal watchlist and add notes regarding each individual position. If later on you feel that you don't need to keep track of a position in your watchlist, simply view the details for that position and you can remove it from your watchlist.

Add Position

Couldn't find what you were looking for? In both search or browse results tabs, you will find an "Add Position" button at the bottom. Use this to add a position that you found so that it can be added to our public database. You should add as many details as you can find about the position thinking that you will use that information to make the final decision whether to apply and also to prepare your application materials.

Edit Position

Did you find an error with some position information? Do you have updated details on a position? No problem, just click on the "Edit" button when viewing the details of each position and feel free to make any changes that you feel would help the other users on the site find more accurate information about those positions.

Tracking Your Applications

So you have added positions to your watchlist and you have an idea of the jobs you want to apply to. As you begin this part of the job search, click "Start Tracking Application" when viewing a position details page to add some information regarding your application process. Here, you can keep track of interview dates, status of recommendation letters, contact information, and general comments about the position specific to your application (offer, offer amount, comments, etc.) You should be able to edit your application information directly on the details page for each position in your application list.
